Representatives of the Region's 52 Member States talked about their concerns, including more frequent health emergencies, the growth of noncommunicable and communicable diseases, and challenging health system reforms.Recognizing that the Region has the highest alcohol consumption and the highest burden of alcohol-related disease in the world, the Committee adopted a framework strategy for Region-wide action on the problem.
The Committee also urged countries to develop national action plans to prevent unintentional and intentional injuries, which are a leading cause of death and disability, especially among people aged 1-14 years.
